Our
2008 National Convention
Las Vegas, NV
--
Make Plans to attend the 2008 Auxiliary National Convention
in Las Vegas, NV. We
hope to make this convention a rewarding experience.
While convention business will be the focus of the week, we are planning many celebrations
during the week. Here are just a few of the special
events:
-
Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. we will host a
leadership retreat for all state and local presidents (or their designee).
It will include fellowship, lunch, training and focus on goals, mission and
recognition.
-
COPA will continue to be a focus at this convention --
look for opportunities to contribute and raise funds for this important APWU
project. There will be a COPA night celebration.
-
In keeping with the celebration of our over 90 years of
Auxiliary activity -- we will continue recognizing the excellence of our
Auxiliaries around the nation. An organizing campaign was announced in
the May 2008 News and Views. The APWU organizing effort recognizes the
strong link between families and the union membership. Begin working
today on recruiting, retaining and activating members in your organization.
Make sure you get the names, addresses, including city, state and zip, phone
number and email addresses. Don't forget to note the "top" organizers
in your local or state. It would be greatly appreciated if you would
send them in within 14 days of collection. All dues and
membership lists should be sent to
National Treasurer Trisa Mannion
3038 Cloverdale Court
Grand Junction, CO 81506
-
Parade of States will be on Thursday
-
Picketed in Solidarity to oppose the attempts to
consolidate Postal Processing Facilities that will destroy service standards
in the communities they serve.
-
Operation Safe Nest will be the 2008 Human Relations
Project in Las Vegas, Nevada: a protective shelter for men, women,
and children. This shelter is responsible for providing safety and saving
lives since 1977, as well as a nurturing environment, for 103 women and
children, and sometimes men. Because of the large demand for help, "Safe
Nest" is unable to assist all who need help. However, if each member of our
APWU Auxiliaries nationally contributed just $1.00 (about the cost of two
cokes or two candy bars) to "Safe Nest", they would be able to meet the
needs of many more people. We will be accepting donations from now all the
way through the Convention, Aug. 18-21, 2008. Please send monetary donations
to our Treasurer Trisa Mannion.
Sounds like we'll have a lot of fun - and still got our work done.
Don't miss this exciting event; start making plans now for
the 2008 Convention. It will be in the exciting city of Las Vegas, NV.
